You Won’t Be Out Cold

Does your heart pound at the mere thought of having a cavity filled? Do you get sweaty palms when you drive by a dental practice? At The Plano Dentist, we understand dental anxiety, and provide sedation dentistry to get you through it.

Many men and women who have improved their smile with cosmetic dentistry or undergone extensive restoration services chose to use sedation. There are several types of sedation common to dentistry in the United States. Our method of choice is nitrous oxide.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative, and it’s been used in dentistry for more than one hundred years. You probably know of it as “laughing gas.” Nitrous oxide may or may not make you laugh, but it will put you in a relaxed state for your procedure.

It does not make you sleep. When you are under the influence of nitrous oxide, you’ll be aware of your surroundings at all times. You’ll hear any questions that we may put to you, and answer them coherently.

To administer nitrous oxide, you wear a mask that covers your nose. It works quickly, and most patients report feeling light-headed, and sometimes with a tingling sensation in the arms and legs. Others say their limbs feel heavy. What almost everyone says is that they’re calm and comfortable. When the procedure is finished, the effects of laughing gas wear off quickly.

Sedation dentistry is effective for most of our patients who cope with dental anxiety. At The Plano Dentist, we provide general dentistry for the entire family. Schedule your next appointment with us today.
