Many of our patients at The Plano Dentist ask us, “What exactly are porcelain veneers, and how are they used in cosmetic dentistry?”
Veneers are thin shells made from durable, translucent porcelain or composite resin. They are custom-made for each patient, and used to improve the appearance of teeth. Unlike a dental crown, which covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, a veneer covers just the front. They are commonly used to correct teeth that have been chipped, stained, decayed, or that are slightly crooked.
If you visit your dentist for veneers, a model will be made of your teeth. This model is used to create the veneers, so you can be sure of a custom fit.
Since a very small layer of the enamel on the tooth has to be removed so the veneer can be set, this is usually irreversible.
Porcelain veneers are just one cosmetic dentistry procedure provided by The Plano Dentist. Another is teeth whitening. We also offer family dentistry, and screenings for oral cancer. Schedule an appointment with us today.
